Hold on, to me as we go. As we roll down this unfamiliar road. And although this wave is stringing us along. Just know you’re not alone, cause I’m going to make this place your home. Settle down, it'll all be clear. Don't pay no mind to the demons, they fill you with fear. The trouble it might drag you down. If you get lost, you can always be found. Just know you’re not alone, cause I’m going to make this place your home.

Three Month Update - Spring/Summer Fun

Ok, so I know I have been lacking when it comes to updating the blog! To be honest, I have not even turned on my laptop for the past few weeks.  I am lucky if I keep up with Facebook and my email :)

Our Little Cherry Blossom has been keeping this mama very busy!  Even now she is supposed to be napping and is instead laying on the couch with her head propped up and her hair sticking up everywhere just watching me type.  I have a feeling that I will not finish this post today.

Hey Mom!

So, since my last blog update we have had some pretty exciting things happen.  We have celebrated her 2nd month of being home and are about to celebrate her 3rd month arriving home.  It is hard to believe that this little sassy girl has been with us for over 3 months now.  I was able to celebrate my first Mother's Day, which has been a rough day for me over the past five years.  This year I was crying tears of happiness instead of tears of sadness at church.

She is doing so well with understanding what we are saying.  She definitely knows how to respond with a "yes" or a "no" (she loves the latter).  We like to trick her when she is on her "no" streak by throwing in a question to see if she will say "no".  This question is "Do you want money?"  and she always responds by saying "yes" and smiling.  We have no idea where she has gotten this from since we are not ones to hand her money but it is really funny.  She follows instructions very well and still continues to pick up trash and throw things away.  It is ironic that she can find the one piece of lint on the steps going up to her room and give it to us to throw away, but she ignores all  of the crayons on the living room floor that we have to ask her to pick up continuously.

Her talking improves more and more each day.  We are slowly being able to understand the words she is saying and if we cannot then she points at what she is talking about.  We know that the more exposure she gets to other kids talking the better she will get. Many people have asked if she will continue to speak Mandarin.  She never really spoke a lot of Mandarin and if she did it was her mimicking a song.  As she continues to grow in the English language I am incorporating American Sign Language and will add Mandarin later.

Her social skills have greatly improved as she has had a lot of exposure to other kids at her babysitter, church and all of our friend's kids.  This week she has been at VBS and has LOVED it!  Everyone that sees her talks about how cute she is and how animated she gets during the singing and dancing time.  Our girl really likes to dance!  Her favorite song on the radio right now is Icono Pop's song "I Love It" and she likes to act like she is mouthing the words.  Every time it comes on the radio she screams my name and then starts dancing.  It is a trip!

The Rock and I have been able to leave her home twice now.  We were able to have our first date night with some friends and her Grandma and Grandpa kept her.  They were able to see how bossy she is and she has wrapped them around her little fingers too.  She entertained them all night!  The second night was when we went to The Rock's 20th High School Reunion and she got to hang out with her Nana all night.  Thankfully this was the same week that Mama had workshops for school so she had been with Nana all week and did really well.  She continues to become more comfortable around our friends and family and is growing both physically and socially!

The girl is all about her ponytails, sunglasses and lip gloss.  I think her daddy is going to be in trouble!

I will try to do some more posts later tonight because this one post has taken me most of the afternoon to finish with a certain 3 year old running around without a nap!

One Month Later Update - Cherry Blossom Turns the Big 3!!!

I am so thankful that we were able to spend our daughter's 3rd birthday here at home with us.  This meant that she only had to celebrate one birthday in an orphanage.  (She arrived at the orphanage when she was 1).  We tried to make this a birthday she would remember.  The poor thing has been given so many presents since arriving home she probably did not even understand yet another celebration.

We decided that her party would only be family since we did not think she was ready for a big celebration.  That will be next year!  Mama decorated the house with Chinese Lanterns and pictures of her in China.  We had Chinese food from Fulins, which was amazing!   Mama loved the Sweet and Sour Chicken, but that is one of the few things that I do eat from a Chinese restaurant.  The Rock loved all of the food and Cherry Blossom loved the noodles and the rice.

Some of Cherry Blossom's favorite things is bubbles and balloons, so our party would not be complete without those.  We had bubble guns outside for her cousins to play with and balloons all over the house.  She was so surprised when she woke up on her birthday to see the house decorated just for her.  We had to take pictures of the balloons!  She had to wait to play with them until the party.

That morning we went to church where she was able to show off her cute "Birthday Dress" that mama found on sale after Easter.....again bargain shopping is great!  We were able to get some amazing pictures in that dress.  She tried the nursery class for a few minutes at church, but did not stay more then 5 minutes, we would try again next week!

After we got home from church she rested until the celebration would begin. When she woke up she got to put on her special Chinese dress for her party.  She was so excited to see all of her family, especially her cousins! It was a beautiful day outside so we were able to enjoy the weather and have fun.

Her cake came from one of Murfreesboro's famous bakeries,  Julia's.  Let me just say that they make an amazing cake.  They made her a beautiful Cherry Blossom cake and even allowed me to get a smash cake for her if the cake said Happy 1st Birthday.   All I had to do was scrape off the 1st and put a "3" candle there and we had a free cake for her :)

She received so many new toys, clothes and books!  It was like Christmas!  The gift she went crazy about was the big giant bag of shoes that her cousin Morgan handed down to her.  These had all been Morgan's shoes and they were sizes 5-7.  Our little girl LOVES shoes!  She constantly wants to rearrange them in the closet.

Overall it was an amazing day spent with people that have wished for her, prayed for her and have loved her for over a year! Happy Birthday Cherry Blossom!

In her Cherry Blossom dress we bought her in China.
She has one in every size until she is 10-12 years old.  Of course we have matching shoes too!
