Today has been our first "free day" since arriving in Beijing. This means no Mr Chong, our driver, driving us around. No Tom translating or touring with us. We are on our own with Cherry Blossom! We love our hotel room, but we knew for all of our sakes we needed to get out at some point. We decided to chance the smog and walk around our daughter's birth city.
We ended up walking through a large business district and then an area that was not so savory part of the city. This part really had no sidewalks and lots of men digging in the trash. I told The Rock we needed to get back to the business district and quit exploring the city. He was happy to finally find a 7Eleven, but alas no Big Gulps there! We also found a Texas BBQ place which was playing honkey tonk music outside. We kind of laughed because usually when you walk the streets all you hear are voices in Chinese telling you to come in the restaurants over a little speaker. Tom said that the message usually is, " Come inside, our food is good" etc. Cherry Blossom began dancing in her stroller to the music, so we may have to visit there tomorrow night. Tonight we are going to go to an Italian place down the street. Mommy and Cherry Blossom are tired of eating in the room for dinner every night :) The Rock will have to settle for his Chinese meal at breakfast today.
As we got closer to our hotel I decided that my trip would not be complete if I did not have an ice cream cone in China.....haha. Plus, Cherry Blossom needed to try it so that she will be prepared for Sweet Cece's when we get home! McDonalds had a To-go window on the street level where they only served ice cream so The Rock bought me a cone. Cherry Blossom loved it of course, but she could only bite at it. I tried many times to get her to lick it but she just kept giggling and biting.
She continues to be really good at eating, but after talking to Tom yesterday we found out that scrambled eggs at breakfast may not be good for her digestive system. So, he recommended a steamed egg. Let me just say, as a person who despises eggs, feeding her a steamed egg custard this morning was disgusting! She loved it of course, but momma did not. I told The Rock that he needed to figure out how to make a steamed egg when we get home :) Because of her diet we have to be careful with what we allow her to eat. Her stomach does not process all kinds of foods and we have to be aware at all times. She loves both rice and noodles as well as melons, bananas and apples. Hopefully once we get home we can find out more of what she can eat and add things to her diet.
We have two more days in Beijing and then it is on to Guangzhou, which makes me happy. I am ready for some warm weather and am anxious to be around other adoptive families that are there now. I would love to see Cherry Blossom around other kids and see her reactions!
We are thinking about all of our friends that are on the Annual Marriage Retreat this weekend. We are there in spirit and miss all of you! We hope that you guys are having an AWESOME time and are growing stronger in your marriage with God as your Rock! We love all of you guys and can't wait to see you soon!
Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27
Hold on, to me as we go. As we roll down this unfamiliar road. And although this wave is stringing us along. Just know you’re not alone, cause I’m going to make this place your home. Settle down, it'll all be clear. Don't pay no mind to the demons, they fill you with fear. The trouble it might drag you down. If you get lost, you can always be found. Just know you’re not alone, cause I’m going to make this place your home.
